Three Celtic Christian Ministries

Rooted on Scotland's sacred island, the Iona Community turns prayer into public witness, linking worship with justice, peace, creation care, and the rebuilding of fractured communities. Celtic wisdom insists the world itself is holy ground awaiting renewal.

When we begin seeing the world as sacred, we also begin seeing people differently. The Anamchara Fellowship revives the ancient Celtic practice of the soul friend, forming dispersed communities where prayer, spiritual companionship, and radical hospitality shape lives that welcome every stranger as Christ. ⁱ

i. A soul friend, as St Aelred described it, is one before whom we have no secrets. One sad aftermath of the Protestant Reformation is that the intent was the ‘priesthood of all believers’ — instead of only a few clergy, we should all be hearing and offering our confessions to one another — but the result has often been the priesthood of ‘no’ believers. Celtic spirituality offers reclaiming the powerful gift of mutual confession.
